Product Description

A natural red garnet specimen from Skardu, Pakistan, featuring several well-formed garnet crystals on a contrasting matrix of quartz, feldspar, and silvery mica. The garnets have partially developed dodecahedral crystal forms, with a vitreous surface and red to reddish-brown coloration.  The upper crystal is especially translucent and shows a bright internal red glow under strong lighting.

The largest crystal displays attractive translucency and a vivid deep-red glow under light, while numerous smaller garnets add detail across the matrix. An appealing example of Skardu pegmatite mineralization for collectors and display. Based on appearance, the garnet may belong to the almandine–spessartine group, although laboratory testing would be required for exact identification.

The matrix contain

  • White to pale pink quartz
  • Cream-colored feldspar
  • Silvery mica, likely muscovite
  • Several smaller reddish-orange garnet crystals

Specimen Details

  • Stone: Almandine Garnet with Quartz & Mica
  • Weight: 23.4 grams
  • Dimensions: 35 × 25 × 25 mm
  • Crystal Form: Cubic
  • Presentation: On Matrix (natural host rock)
  • Origin: Pakistan

This mineral association is typical of a granitic pegmatite environment. The specimen is especially collectible because the garnets remain naturally attached to contrasting quartz, feldspar, and mica rather than being separated from the matrix.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Almandine Garnet the same as regular red garnet?

Almandine is the most common species of red garnet and is known for its deep, iron-rich red color. It belongs to the garnet group but has a specific iron-aluminum silicate composition that gives it its characteristic dark crimson hue.

Where this specimen come from?

This specimen is mined in Skardu, Pakistan.

What does 'on matrix' mean for a mineral specimen?

"On matrix" means the crystal is still attached to its original host rock — in this case, quartz and mica. Matrix specimens are highly valued by collectors because they show the mineral in its natural geological context, making them more scientifically and aesthetically significant than loose crystals.
